Your school should have policies and procedures in place to support staff in their management of situations that might involve violence, threatening behaviour or abuse.

Refusal to teach

Teachers and lecturers have no formal right to refuse to teach a disruptive pupil or student.

Restraint

The use of reasonable force should always be a last resort for teachers and support staff but schools should offer clear, precise advice and guidance to their staff on their restraint policy so that there can be no confusion. Your school should have a policy on the use of force.
