ATL's National Executive Committee have agreed the wording of a motion to be discussed by delegates at a special conference of members on Saturday 5 November.

The motion supports a move to ballot the wider ATL membership on whether to create a new union with the NUT to protect and support members, and the children, young people and adults they educate.

Executive agreed the wording on Saturday 10 September ready for the special conference in London where delegates will look at the proposed rules and structures of the new union, and then decide whether to ballot the wider membership on creating the new union. The NUT has also agreed the same motion wording, and will also hold a separate special conference on Saturday 5 November.

ATL's members will talk further about the new union at a district and branch secretaries and Executive meeting on 7 and 8 October.

Places to attend the special conference will be allocated on exactly the same basis as they are for annual Conference - elected by ATL districts at their AGMs. Many districts will not yet have filled their allocation of places, so contact your district secretary if you are interested in taking up one of the places.
