They said that they wished that they were in position to make a better offer, but that current pay levels did not allow them to do so. They have agreed to meet again in January 2018 to provide an opportunity to review any wider developments on public sector pay and the funding environment, and to campaign jointly with the trade unions on Government funding for FE.
While reluctant to accept this offer, the main concern of the NEU ATL section's Further Education Sector Advisory Group (FESAG) committee was about the lack of implemetation of national recommendations by individual colleges.
As part of its recommendation, the AoC also agreed to establish working groups tasked to produce good practice guidelines on training and development in colleges, and non-lecturer curriculum delvery staff.
The AoC’s recommendation was in response to a joint trade union side claim submitted in May 2017.
