The ATL section of the National Education Union, West Sussex District and Branch invites you to a free CPD event on Growth Mindset.
The Growth Mindset for maths- What is it, and how can it help build resilience and success?
Recent research suggests pupils' mindset can contribute greatly to their academic success, and their resilience to setbacks and failure. In this workshop, we examine what the ‘growth mindset’ is, how to recognise it (or its absence) in pupils, and how to use it to boost pupil success. We include maths case studies and practical examples of growth mindset techniques in the classroom. Furthermore, we will also be exploring elements of the growth mindset to help us as adults increase our own success and resilience.
The session will be run by Mike Culley, Chartered Occupational Psychologist, who has run several training sessions for ATL members with much positive feedback.
Areas to be covered:
- What is a growth mindset?
- What is the effect of a growth mindset on attainment?
- What strategies can we use to instil it in pupils?
- Why do the high achievers use the growth mindset?
- The role of curiosity and mindset.
- What does a growth mindset mean to us as teachers?
- How can I utilise a growth mindset to enhance my teaching?
The CPD will be followed by a brief question and answer opportunity and NEU/ATL District and Branch meeting to which you are also invited.
